James Taylor & Carole King
Carol King was a successful song writer from New York. During the 1960’s, she honed her craft working in the Brill Building, a famous Mecca for song writers, in Manhattan.
She embarked on a career as a solo artist in 1970. Her breakthrough came the following year when she released the “Tapestry” album in 1971. One of the songs on that album was a single titled “You’ve Got a Friend”. In addition to her recording of that song, another artist was allowed to record the same song using the same studio musicians. That artist’s name was James Taylor.
“You’ve Got a Friend” won top honors for James Taylor (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance) and Carol King (Song of the Year) at the 14th Annual Grammy Awards in 1972.
