The “Flip Wilson Show” was an hour long variety show that originally aired on NBC from 1970 to 1974.
In the years before programs were available on multiple platforms or could be scheduled on DVR’s, it was appointment television not to be missed.
Wilson’s opening monologue was followed by sketch comedy segments, and musical acts. As the show skyrocketed to the highest ratings levels, A-list guests of the day clamored to appear with him.
Through his monologues, sketches, and impressions, Wilson introduced a number of popular characters including “Geraldine” and “The Reverend Leroy” from the church of “What’s Happening Now” to a national TV audience.
